During their visit, the delegation toured the Sustainability and Innovation Centre and was briefed on DEWA’s flagship renewable energy initiatives. Key highlights included the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park. The park is set to exceed 5,000 MW by 2030 with an investment of AED 50 billion and aims to reduce over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. To date, DEWA has commissioned 2,860 MW of solar capacity, with additional projects under construction reaching 1,800 MW.

The delegation also learned about other notable renewable energy projects, such as the 250 MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, the first of its kind in the GCC region, and DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative, which aims to support green mobility in Dubai. DEWA has already installed over 700 charging stations, with plans to reach 1,000 by the end of 2025.

The delegation expressed admiration for DEWA’s pioneering efforts in the renewable energy sector and showed enthusiasm for adopting DEWA’s best practices and innovations to support sustainable development in the Maldives.
