JSERC Introduces Fifth Amendment To Boost Rooftop Solar PV System In Jharkhand

The Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC) has introduced the JSERC (Rooftop Solar PV Grid Interactive System and Net/Gross Metering) (Fifth Amendment) Regulations, 2024, intending to encourage the generation of renewable energy within the state. These regulations are framed under the powers granted by Section 181(1), along with Sections 61(h), and 86(1)(a), (b), and (e) of the Electricity Act, 2003. This amendment amends the existing JSERC (Rooftop Solar PV Grid Interactive System and Net/Gross Metering) Regulations, 2015, which were previously established to regulate solar energy systems in the state.

The new regulations, officially titled the JSERC (Rooftop Solar PV Grid Interactive System and Net/Gross Metering) (Fifth Amendment) Regulations, 2024, will be applicable across the state of Jharkhand. These regulations are set to take effect from the date of their publication in the Government of Jharkhand Gazette unless further reviewed or extended by the Commission.

A key change introduced by the Fifth Amendment is the revision of Clause 8.2 of the original regulations. The amended clause now states that the voltage level at which the rooftop solar PV system is to be connected to the distribution system will follow the specifications laid out in Clause 4.3 of the JSERC (Electricity Supply Code) Regulations, 2015, as well as any amendments to these regulations. This update aims to streamline the process of connecting rooftop solar systems to the grid and ensure consistency with the broader electricity supply code in the state.

This amendment is expected to further support the growth of rooftop solar installations and contribute to the overall expansion of renewable energy sources in Jharkhand, promoting cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions for the state.
