World Future Energy Summit 2025: Unveiling the Middle East’s Bold Vision for Sustainable Smart Cities

The World Future Energy Summit 2025, hosted by Masdar, will shine a light on transformative urban development and the power of smart cities during its Sustainable Cities exhibition and conference. The event, part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), will take place from January 14 to 16 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

The summit will showcase the UAE’s and the region’s advancements in sustainable urban planning, with Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia leading the charge in adopting smart and eco-friendly innovations.

Driving Sustainable Urban Development

Highlighting Abu Dhabi’s leadership, Masdar City Executive Director for Sustainable Development Mohamed Al Breiki said:
“Masdar City has pioneered sustainable urban development for over 15 years, showcasing the UAE’s commitment to a net-zero future. Projects like Masdar City Square and The Link exemplify our dedication to innovation and sustainability, while the Masdar City Free Zone fosters collaboration across industries such as AI, renewable energy, and smart mobility.”

Regional Investments in Smart Cities

According to research the UAE and Saudi Arabia will collectively invest $50 billion in smart city initiatives by 2025. In the UAE, projects like Masdar City, Noor Abu Dhabi, and the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant underline the nation’s leadership in clean energy and sustainable development.

Dubai’s “Dubai Walk” initiative, aimed at transforming the city into a pedestrian-friendly destination with 25% pedestrian mobility by 2040, further underscores the nation’s commitment to sustainability.

Saudi Arabia is also redefining urban landscapes with its giga projects, blending smart technologies and eco-friendly designs to achieve sustainability goals.

Innovation at the Forefront

Abu Dhabi’s Estidama Pearl Rating system, part of its Economic Vision 2030, continues to set benchmarks in sustainable building practices. The UAE capital was recently ranked among the Top 10 Smart Cities globally in the 2024 Smart City Index, the only Middle Eastern city on the list.

Leen AlSebai, General Manager of RX Middle East and Head of the World Future Energy Summit, emphasized the importance of innovation:
“The Sustainable Cities Conference will drive discussions on energy optimization, waste management, and climate-resilient designs. It’s a platform for forging partnerships necessary for future-ready urban environments.”
