UAE Commits To Net Zero: Minister Highlights Ambitious Renewable Energy Goals at IRENA Assembly

Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, reaffirmed the nationโ€™s dedication to accelerating the global energy transition during the 15th International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly held in Abu Dhabi.

Delivering the host countryโ€™s statement, Dr. Al Dahak outlined the UAE’s commitment to doubling its clean and renewable energy capacity as part of its Net Zero by 2050 Strategy. She also emphasized the UAE Consensus, an ambitious framework established at COP28, which calls for tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030.

“The world is watching, and the time for action is now,” Dr. Al Dahak declared, urging nations to strengthen their renewable energy commitments, prioritize project adaptability, and attract private investment.

UAE Investments in Developing Nations Highlighted

At the Assembly’s press conference, Dr. Al Dahak addressed the critical need to close the renewable energy deployment gap, highlighting the UAEโ€™s support for developing nations. Initiatives such as ALTร‰RRA, the worldโ€™s largest private climate investment fund, and the Africa Green Investment Initiative were presented as key drivers of clean energy projects across the African continent.
