Palmetto, a software company focused on driving the adoption of climate technology products and services, has announced the appointment of Neil Chatterjee as its first Chief Government Affairs Officer. Chatterjee brings extensive experience in energy policy, strong relationships in Washington D.C. and the broader energy sector, and a bipartisan approach to addressing growing energy demand while strengthening the U.S. energy grid.

He previously served on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from 2017 to 2021, including two terms as Chairman under President Donald Trump. Before taking on this full-time role, Chatterjee advised Palmetto for over three years while at Hogan Lovells and served a one-year term as an independent director on the company’s Board of Directors. This new position marks a natural progression in Chatterjee’s long-standing connection with Palmetto and its Founder, CEO, and Chairman, Chris Kemper.

Chris Kemper, Founder, CEO and Chairman of Palmetto, โ€œWe’re thrilled to bring Neil’s extensive policy expertise in-house full-time to Palmetto. Neil drove the most important policy that enabled a clean technology future, FERC Order 2222, which enabled distributed energy. At the heart of the United States’ energy framework is the need to provide abundant, sustainable energy generation and efficiency. Neil’s policy set the new US energy economy in motion, which has given rise to a whole new market, which Palmetto is built to enable. We are honored to have him on the team to help us continue to navigate policy and legislative market conditions.โ€

Neil Chatterjee said, โ€œPalmetto is uniquely positioned to meet growing energy demand through its technology platform which is already driving clean energy adoption at scale. Having worked closely in an advisory role with Chris Kemper for the past few years, I am deeply familiar with the company and fervently believe in its pursuit to improve our nation’s energy grid by democratizing access to clean energy. Palmetto is leading American innovation and delivering the data insights and consumer marketplace recommendations that make clean energy deployment more targeted, efficient and effective for homeowners and energy service providers alike.โ€

Chatterjee will take charge of government affairs at Palmetto during a critical time for U.S. energy policy, as the nation transitions from the Biden Administration to a second Trump Administration. With energy demand and utility costs on the rise, he emphasizes the importance of a balanced and practical approach to shaping energy policy. The increasing energy demand in the U.S. is largely fueled by the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, which have led to a surge in energy-intensive data centers.

Neil Chatterjee also added, โ€œPresident Trump has pledged to win the AI race against China as part of our national security plan, and to bring the cost of energy down to ease financial pressures for American families. To achieve these goals, we need every available energy electron; a challenge that will necessitate bipartisan support for a diverse energy mix that includes both traditional and renewable sources.โ€

Chatterjee has joined Palmetto after serving as Senior Advisor in the Global Regulatory practice at Hogan Lovells, a leading international law firm. He also contributes to the energy sector by serving on advisory boards of various companies in the field. Since 2010, Palmetto has been driving innovation in clean energy technology, focusing on delivering an exceptional customer experience. The companyโ€™s proprietary platform uses AI-powered energy intelligence to provide homeowners with personalized energy insights and tools to better understand their energy consumption and costs.

Through Palmettoโ€™s marketplace, customers can explore tailored solutions such as solar panels, battery storage systems, EV chargers, protection plans, and smart energy devices. They can also access financing options for select products via Palmetto LightReach. This integrated approach helps homeowners save on utility bills, reduce their environmental impact, and make informed energy decisions, all through an easy-to-use platform.
