NTPC, in collaboration with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has unveiled its Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Bus (FCEB) at the Mahakumbh 2025 event, allowing visitors and dignitaries to experience a cutting-edge green mobility solution. The hydrogen-powered bus will be on display throughout Mahakumbh until February 26, 2025.
As part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), MNRE has supported NTPC in setting up Green Hydrogen refueling stations in Greater Noida and Bhubaneswar, as well as deploying these innovative hydrogen buses. The buses can store up to 50 kg of hydrogen at 350 bar in a single refueling and can cover over 600 km before needing a refill. They emit only clean water vapor, demonstrating NTPC’s dedication to decarbonization and energy security through sustainable fuel solutions.
NTPC’s commitment to green mobility extends beyond the Mahakumbh showcase. The company recently launched Green Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses in Leh, marking the world’s highest-altitude Green Hydrogen Mobility Project, located 3,650 meters above sea level. Additionally, NTPC is advancing its green energy efforts through the Green Hydrogen Hub Project in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh, with a significant investment of Rs 1.85 lakh crore.
Further enhancing its green mobility initiatives, NTPC’s subsidiary, NGEL, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deendayal Port Authority in January 2025 to promote green hydrogen technologies at Kandla Port, Gujarat. These efforts highlight NTPC’s commitment to leading the transition towards clean energy and innovative mobility solutions.
