NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has announced the incorporation of a new joint venture company, AP NGEL HARIT AMRIT LIMITED. The company was officially registered on February 6, 2025, as a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC Green Energy Limited and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited, a government entity.
The newly formed company will focus on developing renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid power, with or without storage, up to a capacity of 25 GW. Additionally, it aims to produce 0.5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of green hydrogen and its derivatives, such as green ammonia and green methanol. Another key objective is the development of pumped hydro storage projects with a capacity of up to 10 GW at identified locations in Andhra Pradesh.
The formation of this joint venture was approved by the Ministry of Power (MoP), Government of India, with concurrence from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) and NITI Aayog. The approval was granted on December 5, 2024.
For the incorporation of the company, NTPC Green Energy Limited has subscribed to 50,000 equity shares at a face value of โน10 each. The investment was made through cash consideration, and NGEL holds a 50% stake in the company.
This initiative is a significant step towards strengthening Indiaโs renewable energy sector, enhancing green hydrogen production, and expanding energy storage solutions. The joint venture aligns with Indiaโs goal of achieving a sustainable and low-carbon energy future by promoting large-scale renewable energy deployment in Andhra Pradesh.
