The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), through its project development arm PDC (Saudi Electricity Company Project Development Company), has announced a major infrastructure initiative to remove overhead electricity transmission towers and replace them with underground power cables in Riyadh.

The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Riyadh Track development program and will focus on the area along Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road in Riyadh. The initiative aims to improve the urban landscape while strengthening the efficiency of the cityโ€™s electrical infrastructure.

As part of the project scope, approximately 65 electricity transmission towers will be dismantled, and four underground power lines will be installed, each extending around 30 kilometers. The conversion from overhead transmission lines to underground cabling is expected to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the electrical network while supporting urban development initiatives in the region.

According to the project outline, the initiative will contribute to improving the cityโ€™s visual landscape along major roads and support the broader development objectives associated with Riyadhโ€™s infrastructure expansion.
