The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) and the Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau (RSB), in collaboration with the Dubai Land Department (DLD) and the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA), organized a workshop on the Building Energy Management Accreditation Scheme (BEMAS), reinforcing Dubaiโs commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
The event saw the accreditation of five leading companiesโAl-Futtaim Engineering, Engie Cofley Energy Services, EP&T Global, Enova Facilities Management Services, and FARNEK Servicesโunder the BEMAS framework. These companies, collectively managing over 700 buildings spanning more than 13 million square meters across the UAE, were recognized for their contributions to energy efficiency and sustainability. The accreditation certificates were presented by Mustafa Al Yousuf, Chairman of the BEMAS Accreditation Board.
Dubaiโs Commitment to Energy Efficiency
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the DSCE, emphasized the significance of BEMAS in advancing Dubaiโs clean energy initiatives.
โThe accreditation of five industry leaders under BEMAS is a testament to Dubaiโs unwavering commitment to advancing energy efficiency and sustainability. This initiative is a key pillar in our strategy to position Dubai as a global benchmark for smart and sustainable cities. By empowering the private sector with advanced energy management solutions, we are accelerating progress towards the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050,โ said Al Tayer.
HE Ahmed Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the DSCE, highlighted the role of collaboration in achieving climate goals, stating that BEMAS represents the integration of regulators, real estate stakeholders, and energy experts to institutionalize best practices and enhance economic competitiveness.
Industry Experts Discuss Future of Energy Management
The workshop featured keynote addresses from government representatives, including Ramiz Hamdan Alaileh, Executive Director of the RSB, and Mohammed Al Bidwawi, CEO of the Corporate Support Sector and Acting CEO of RERA at the DLD. Discussions focused on the role of accreditation in achieving Dubaiโs Demand Side Management (DSM) Strategy 2050, which targets a 30% reduction in electricity and water consumption by 2030 and 50% by 2050.
Al Bidwawi underscored Dubaiโs leadership in sustainability, noting that the BEMAS initiative has grown from accrediting its first company in 2022 to recognizing five companies today. โThis milestone reflects the power of collaboration and our shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in Dubaiโs real estate sector,โ he stated.
Innovations and Challenges in Energy Management
Industry experts from the accredited companies discussed best practices and innovations in energy management, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and renewable energy integration in facility management. The workshop also addressed key challenges, such as cost reduction for tenants and investors, optimization of building operations, and compliance with government sustainability targets.
Speakers highlighted the importance of energy audits, data-driven decision-making, and AI-powered predictive maintenance to improve building performance and reduce operational costs.
Call to Action for Industry Stakeholders
The event concluded with a call to action for real estate and facility management stakeholders to pursue BEMAS accreditation and enhance their energy management standards.
Launched by the Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau in 2021 under the direction of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, BEMAS aims to elevate energy management standards in Dubaiโs buildings in line with the UAEโs climate neutrality goals and the Dubai DSM Strategy.
With this latest accreditation milestone, Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a leader in energy efficiency and sustainable urban development.
