ERC Officials Attend Inauguration of 19.8 MW Bongabon Solar Power Project

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) participated in the inauguration of the 19.8 MWAC Bongabon Solar Power Project marking another milestone in the Philippines’ transition to renewable energy.

The event was attended by ERC representatives Ms. Sharon O. Montañer, Director III of the Market Operations Service (MOS), and Engr. Jayson G. Corpuz, Division Chief of the MOS Renewable Energy Division (RED). The solar facility, located in Barangay Pesa, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija, was developed by Greentech Solar Energy, Inc. (GSEI), a subsidiary of Meralco Powergen Corporation (MGEN) through its renewable energy unit, MGen Renewable Energy, Inc. (MGreen).

Advancing the Philippines’ Renewable Energy Goals

The Bongabon Solar Power Project is among the key initiatives under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP) Round 2. It aligns with the country’s National Renewable Energy Plan (NREP) and supports the government’s target of achieving a 35% renewable energy share by 2030.

During her speech at the inauguration, Dir. Montañer reaffirmed the ERC’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent energy market while fostering investor confidence and protecting consumer interests. She commended MGen’s efforts in advancing the nation’s clean energy transition and emphasized the ERC’s continued support for a more inclusive and sustainable energy sector.

The newly inaugurated solar facility will contribute clean and cost-efficient electricity to the national grid, reinforcing the country’s renewable energy ambitions while addressing growing energy demands.
