The first cohort of the Executive Diploma in Sustainability Programme graduated today in a ceremony held in Dubai, marking a significant step in the UAE’s efforts to advance sustainability education and capacity building. The programme is a collaborative initiative between the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the DIFC Academy, the American University in Cairo, and the University Leadership Council. It is the first of several specialized programmes designed to support the UAE’s sustainability, environmental, and climate objectives across various sectors.
The graduation ceremony was attended by Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and recognized a diverse group of participants, including government employees, private sector professionals, entrepreneurs, and recent graduates. These individuals are engaged in key fields contributing to the UAE’s climate priorities and strategies.
Comprehensive Curriculum on Sustainability
Offered by the American University in Cairo (AUC), the Executive Diploma in Sustainability covers a range of critical sustainability topics. The curriculum includes four core modules focusing on sustainability and water, the food and energy nexus, energy resource management, the green economy, green entrepreneurship, and the circular economy.
The programme also explores wastewater treatment and desalination, modern agricultural and aquaculture technologies, and includes interactive field visits to provide participants with real-world insights into sustainability challenges and solutions.
Alignment with UAE’s Climate Strategy
Following accreditation in the UAE, the American University in Cairo structured the programme to align with the country’s strategic sustainability goals. The curriculum equips participants with a comprehensive understanding of climate action strategies, environmental challenges, and sustainable development principles.
Key topics covered include renewable energy, climate change mitigation, environmental awareness, and the evolving landscape of sustainable development goals. By fostering expertise in sustainable resource management, the programme empowers participants to drive long-term environmental and economic progress across industries and communities.
