In a move to strengthen international collaboration on clean energy and reinforce the UAEโs position as a global hub for sustainable technologies, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) hosted a high-level delegation from Germany to explore partnerships in renewable energy and green hydrogen.
The meeting was led by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, who welcomed HE Sybille Pfaff, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dubai. The German delegation comprised senior representatives from major international companies and academic institutions specializing in clean energy. The visit formed part of the Energy Export Initiative by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
The strategic dialogue focused on avenues for cooperation in the development, production, and storage of green hydrogen, as well as the exchange of technical expertise and best practices. Delegates also discussed potential field visits to key DEWA assets, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is at the center of Dubaiโs clean energy transformation.
Al Tayer emphasized DEWAโs ongoing commitment to driving innovation in the energy sector and adopting advanced clean energy technologies. โThis collaboration reinforces the UAEโs leadership in sustainable development and supports our strategic goals toward achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,โ he stated. He also highlighted the importance of international partnerships in accelerating the energy transition and building a green economy.
The German delegation included prominent organizations such as FEV Group, known for energy systems development and consultancy; MAN Energy Solutions, specializing in hydrogen and energy storage technologies; Hexagon Purus, which focuses on safe hydrogen storage solutions; and MoveTech, a provider of sustainable mobility technologies. Also present were representatives from the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry & Commerce.
During the meeting, Al Tayer presented updates on the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, currently the worldโs largest single-site solar park. The parkโs current operational capacity stands at 3,760MW, representing 21% of Dubaiโs energy mix, with the goal to increase to 7,260MW by 2030, accounting for 34% of the emirateโs energy.
Upcoming developments include Phase 6, due by 2026 with 1,800MW using the latest bifacial PV and single-axis tracking technologies, and Phase 7, which will include a 1,600MW solar plant and a 1,000MW battery storage system, offering 6,000 MWh of energy storage โ one of the worldโs largest solar-plus-storage projects.
These initiatives align with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming to meet 100% of energy needs from clean sources by mid-century.
