Sungrow, a global leader in PV inverter and energy storage technology, has successfully deployed a 60MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Simo, Finlandโ€”less than 100 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle. As one of the northernmost battery storage facilities in the world, the project marks a significant step in strengthening Finlandโ€™s renewable energy infrastructure.

The project, part of the FRV AmpTank joint venture, includes 26 of Sungrowโ€™s PowerTitan battery containers and delivers 30MW of power output with 60MWh of energy storage capacity. It is designed to enhance grid stability as more variable renewable energy sources like wind and solar are integrated into the national energy mix.

Hannu Koivusalo, Chairman of AmpTank, said,ย “There were two main reasons why we selected Sungrow. The first was technical reliability. Sungrow’s technology convinced us that it would perform reliably under all conditions. The second key factor was long-term reliability, specifically maintenance, servicing, and related support, where Sungrow offered us a very competitive package.”

Henry Sรคrkisilta, Key Account Manager at Sungrow Finland added,ย “It has been a pleasure to be part of delivering one of the world’s northernmost battery power plants in collaboration with FRV AmpTank. Our products are designed to operate in demanding conditions, ensuring stability and efficiency forย Finland’sย renewable energy grid and our customers. At the same time, our team of experts is fully dedicated to supporting our partners’ efforts towards our common path towards a sustainable future.”

Sungrowโ€™s PowerTitan BESS is engineered for utility-scale applications and harsh environments. Housed in 20-foot containers, the system uses liquid-cooled, lithium iron phosphate batteries known for their durability, safety, and efficiency. Delivered pre-assembled, the modular design enables quick installation with minimal on-site laborโ€”a key advantage in remote and cold climates.

By delivering reliable energy storage in challenging conditions, this project highlights Sungrowโ€™s ongoing role in enabling the global transition to clean energy, while supporting Finlandโ€™s ambitions for a greener, more resilient power grid.
