In a move that underscores the growing alignment between advanced manufacturing and clean energy adoption, semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia Philippines Inc. has completed a 3-megawatt-peak (MWp) rooftop solar installation at its high-volume assembly and testing facility in Laguna. The project was delivered by Filinvest-ENGIE Renewable Energy Enterprise Inc. (FREE), a joint venture between Filinvest Group and ENGIE Services Philippines.
Installed atop Nexperiaโs production site in Light Industry and Science Park I, the solar power system is designed not just to reduce carbon emissions but also to enhance operational reliabilityโan increasingly vital concern in the precision-driven semiconductor sector. The installation is expected to offset thousands of tons of carbon emissions annually and help stabilize energy costs amid fluctuating grid prices.
With its Laguna facility producing up to a billion semiconductor units annually, uninterrupted power supply is essential. โIn semiconductor manufacturing, power stability is more than a utilityโitโs a necessity,โ said Juan Eugenio L. Roxas, President and CEO of FDC Utilities Inc. and FREE. โThis solar installation brings both reliability and sustainability, giving Nexperia a critical advantage in a globally competitive sector.โ
Nexperiaโs Vice President and General Manager, Gareth Hughes, expressed satisfaction with the projectโs results. โThe system has been delivering consistently, and our generation metrics reflect its high performance,โ he noted. โThis project positions us as a frontrunner in clean energy adoption within our global group.โ
This solar deployment expands FREEโs growing renewable energy portfolio to 17 MWp, which includes systems for other major industrial players such as APO Cement Corporation and Merasenko Corporation. FREEโs earlier flagship projects include a 2.8 MWp solar rooftop installation at Festival Supermall in Alabang.
The Nexperia installation follows FREEโs successful energization of a rooftop solar system for Japanese medical device manufacturer Merasenko Corporation at the Cebu Light Industrial Park in November 2024.
โAcross sectors, industries are being challenged to integrate clean energy without compromising performance. Thatโs where our partnership model delivers value,โ said Jean-Baptiste Dreanic, Managing Director of ENGIE Services Philippines. โTogether with Filinvest, weโre delivering future-ready energy solutions tailored to the evolving demands of industrial players like Nexperia.โ
As part of Filinvestโs larger clean energy strategy through FDC Utilities, the joint venture continues to push the boundaries of energy resilience and low-carbon infrastructure, supporting companies navigating the twin goals of productivity and sustainability.
