India’s push to become a global skills hub is gaining momentum, as revealed in the India Skills Report 2025. One of the most significant highlights is the growing focus on green sectors, particularly renewable energy, as part of the country’s strategy to supply skilled professionals to global industries. With a youthful workforce and government-backed initiatives like Skill India and the National Education Policy, India is aligning itself with international needs in emerging fields like solar power, wind energy, and sustainable development.
The report notes that regions such as Europe, the Gulf nations, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Australia are facing a severe shortage of skilled professionals in sectors such as renewable energy, healthcare, and technology. India, with its expanding pool of trained talent, is expected to play a crucial role in bridging these gaps. Countries like Australia and those in the European Union are investing heavily in clean energy transitions, creating a rising demand for experts in solar and wind energy systems. India’s engineers and technicians, already contributing to global solar and wind projects, are now more in demand than ever before.
In response to this demand, Indian institutions and training programs are being adapted to equip students with practical skills in renewable energy. States like Kerala and Gujarat are highlighted in the report for their proactive approach to skill development tailored to clean energy and environmental sectors. Kerala’s ASAP programme and Gujarat’s vocational training schemes are enabling students to gain hands-on experience in solar energy systems, energy efficiency techniques, and environmental management.
India’s green energy workforce is not just growing in numbers but also in global relevance. For example, Africa is turning to Indian professionals to support its solar and off-grid energy initiatives. Europe’s aim to reduce its energy imports and become more self-reliant through solar and wind projects has opened doors for Indian talent. Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia and Oman are also increasing their investment in renewable infrastructure, and are keen to attract skilled technicians, projects managers, and energy consultants from India.
The report also mentions that by 2025, more than 50% of India’s secondary and higher education students are expected to be exposed to vocational training, much of which is designed to meet global standards in fast-growing sectors like renewable energy. With an eye on sustainable growth, India is strengthening its training ecosystems, with strategic partnerships between government bodies, private companies, and educational institutions. These alliances are ensuring that India’s young professionals are not only employable but also industry-ready for global roles. In addition to exports of manpower, the renewable energy sector is also becoming a key component of India’s domestic employment strategy. As India races toward its net-zero goals, solar and wind energy projects are creating thousands of new jobs in project design, installation, maintenance, and research. With digital tools, AI-based skilling platforms, and international certification programs becoming more accessible, India’s skilled professionals in renewable energy are better prepared to work across borders and lead the global clean energy transition.
