RWE has signed a Strategic Framework Agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to strengthen digital transformation efforts and support renewable energy development. The partnership also aims to help Amazon move closer to its goal of powering operations with clean energy.

The agreement builds on an existing collaboration between the two companies. RWE and Amazon have already signed seven Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in the United States, with a combined capacity of 1.1 gigawatts. The energy from RWEโ€™s wind and solar facilitiesโ€”some already operational, others under constructionโ€”will help supply Amazonโ€™s operations with carbon-free electricity.

โ€œThis strategic framework agreement with AWS represents a significant milestone in our commitment to supporting the digital infrastructure that powers our modern economy with clean energy,โ€ saidย Ulf Kerstin, Chief Commercial Officer of RWE Supply & Trading.ย โ€œAdvancing digitalization and electrification are also driving up demand for electricity. Our competitive portfolio of renewable and flexible energy generation is ideally suited to meet this demand. We are proud to expand our global collaboration with a company like AWS.โ€

โ€œUsing advanced capabilities like artificial intelligence and analytics, weโ€™ll help RWE accelerate their digital transformation, enabling smarter decision-making and enhanced operational performance throughout their energy business,โ€ addedย Howard Gefen, GM for Energy and Utilities at AWS.ย โ€œThrough this expanded collaboration with RWE, weโ€™ll continue to explore new sources of carbon-free energy to help decarbonize our operations.โ€

As part of the new agreement, AWS will provide RWE with a range of cloud services, including artificial intelligence and data analytics tools, to support the companyโ€™s broader digital strategy.

The collaboration has already produced results. RWEโ€™s Supply & Trading division successfully migrated several critical applications to AWS, including its Energy Trading and Risk Management platform. This transition led to a 30% improvement in performance, significantly reducing processing times for key operations.
