CrossBoundary Access, a distributed electric utility and finance platform, has partnered with renewables-focused group ANKA to finance, construct, and operate a USD 20 million (EUR 17.2 million) portfolio of solar-powered mini-grids across Madagascar. The initiative aims to provide clean and reliable electricity to over 62,000 residents by 2026.
The agreement marks CrossBoundary Access’ first expansion outside of Nigeria and supports its goal of deploying USD 150 million in mini-grid project finance over the next three years. The mini-grids will integrate solar photovoltaic systems with battery energy storage to ensure continuous and sustainable power supply.
ANKA, a group of renewable energy utility companies and financial vehicles, is expanding its footprint beyond existing decentralized energy assets. Camille Andre-Bataille, CEO of ANKA, said, “CrossBoundary Access brings the financial architecture we need to accelerate our deployment while maintaining the community-centric approach at the core of our mission.”
Humphrey Wireko, Managing Director at CrossBoundary Access, noted, “This expansion demonstrates our commitment to financing renewable energy solutions across multiple African markets where conditions are right for sustainable mini-grid development.”
The collaboration highlights both organizations’ shared vision to scale up clean energy access and support Madagascar’s broader energy transition goals through innovative, blended finance models.
