The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has reported a significant increase in the adoption of its smart solar platform, ‘Hab Reeh’, with over 1,700 solar photovoltaic (PV) system connection requests evaluated in 2024—a year-on-year growth of more than 30%.

The announcement was made by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, who highlighted the platform’s role in advancing Dubai’s clean energy transition. ‘Hab Reeh’, which takes its name from an Emirati term symbolizing speed, efficiency, and positivity, allows contractors and consultants to perform self-assessments of PV system designs before submitting connection requests under the Shams Dubai initiative.

As part of the Shams Dubai programme, which enables building owners to install and connect solar PV systems to DEWA’s power grid, the emirate has connected more than 8,430 buildings to date, with a combined solar capacity of 725 megawatts (MW).

Al Tayer attributed the growing interest in solar energy adoption to the UAE’s proactive leadership and commitment to sustainability. “Thanks to the vision of our wise leadership, the UAE is now among the leading countries in solar energy adoption. DEWA continues to invest in disruptive technologies to accelerate digital transformation and enhance the experience for contractors and consultants by streamlining the design and installation of PV systems in line with international standards,” he said.

The ‘Hab Reeh’ platform, recognised globally for its innovation, automates the submission and approval process for solar PV systems. It offers users access to a wide range of design options and a database of over 150 types of DEWA-approved solar equipment from international manufacturers, enabling more efficient and cost-effective system planning.

According to DEWA, the platform is aligned with the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, playing a vital role in supporting the emirate’s goals for sustainable development and clean energy transformation.
