The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has announced the launch of its next-generation solar street lighting system, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transition toward cleaner and more energy-efficient infrastructure.

Unveiled under the name “ECN Solar Street Light,” the advanced system is a result of a strategic collaboration with LONGi, a global leader in solar technology and clean energy solutions. Once approved for public deployment, the lights will be installed across Nigeria as part of a nationwide rollout aimed at enhancing urban and rural illumination through renewable energy.

According to ECN, the new solar street lights feature enhanced energy efficiency and technological improvements over previous models, aligning with the commission’s mission to promote sustainable, resilient infrastructure throughout the country.

In line with ECN’s standardisation policy and regulatory framework, each unit will be inscribed with the ECN emblem. This official marking ensures both quality assurance and a consistent national identity across all installations.

The development underscores Nigeria’s commitment to renewable energy adoption, supporting broader efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and expand access to reliable, off-grid lighting solutions in underserved areas.
