Masdar Divests Stake in Sharjah Waste-to-Energy Plant to Tadweer Group

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, a global leader in renewable energy, has announced the divestment of its stake in the Sharjah Waste-to-Energy plant to Tadweer Group, subject to customary closing conditions. The move aligns with Masdar’s strategic focus on expanding its global clean energy portfolio, while enabling Tadweer Group to advance its ambitions of becoming a global leader in sustainable waste management.

The transaction also brings Tadweer Group together with BEEAH, a regional pioneer in sustainability and innovation, as joint venture partners in Emirates Waste-to-Energy, the company that owns and operates the Sharjah facility.

This strategic shift allows each organization to concentrate on its core business: Masdar on scaling up clean energy capacity, and Tadweer Group on growing its UAE operations and international footprint in waste-to-value initiatives. Together with BEEAH, Tadweer will now oversee the plant’s operations, combining their expertise to enhance sustainability and efficiency.

Launched in 2022, the Sharjah Waste-to-Energy plant was the first commercial-scale facility of its kind in the Middle East, playing a critical role in diverting waste from landfills and converting it into electricity.

Md. Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, said, “We are proud of the impact this project has had within the UAE, and we extend our sincere thanks to BEEAH for their valued partnership since the inception of our Emirates Waste-to-Energy joint venture. As we transfer our stake, we are confident that Tadweer and BEEAH will continue to advance the project with strong leadership and a clear strategic vision.”
