Sungrow, a global leader in inverters and energy storage systems, unveiled its latest innovation, the 1+X 2.0 Modular Inverter, at the 2025 MEA PV & ESS Summit in Dubai. Designed for the harsh desert conditions of the Middle East, the inverter delivers stable full-load performance at 52°C and scalable capacity from 780 kW to 9.375 MW. The 1+X 2.0 offers major improvements in reliability, safety, and grid adaptability, setting a new benchmark for utility-scale solar projects across the region.

The inverter addresses extreme heat and sandstorm challenges through high-performance components, efficient heat exchangers, and a dual-duct cooling system that separates hot and cold airflow. Redundant thermal design ensures uninterrupted full-power operation, while extensive testing under high temperature, irradiation, and wind disturbance confirms durability. Its IP66 protection, fully sealed enclosure, self-cleaning air ducts, and robust materials ensure internal components remain dust-free even during prolonged sandstorms, maintaining stable output.

Modularity is a key feature of the 1+X 2.0, with each 780 kW module scalable up to 9.375 MW. The split modular design isolates critical components for quick replacement, with lightweight modules that can be swapped in just one hour. Intelligent diagnostics allow real-time fault detection, minimizing manual troubleshooting and accelerating maintenance, resulting in up to 70% faster O&M.

Safety is enhanced through an AI-driven DC-side management system, including dual arc protection, terminal overheating protection, and pyro fuse technology that detects 15 fault types and disconnects within milliseconds. These measures effectively prevent short circuits, arcing, and fire risks, safeguarding equipment and personnel.

The inverter also optimizes project economics. Its microgrid capability allows diesel-free commissioning, reducing reliance on generators and accelerating grid connection, as demonstrated by a 1 GW Middle East project that achieved connection 30 days early and generated 2.9 million USD in additional revenue. Larger block designs, longer string access, and MPLC communication reduce CAPEX by up to 3.24 million USD per 1 GW project, while intelligent diagnostics and simplified O&M lower OPEX.

Equipped with Sungrow’s grid-forming technology, the 1+X 2.0 ensures seamless integration with both strong and weak grids and supports DC- and AC-coupled solar-plus-storage solutions. DC-coupled systems reduce initial investment by 10% and improve efficiency by 5% compared to AC-coupled setups, while the inverter provides 100% grid-forming capability based on AC capacity, enabling operation as a solar-plus-storage generator.
