Philippines, UK Strengthen Collaboration on Carbon Credit Framework as DOE Advances Draft Circular to Boost Clean Energy Transition

The Philippines has taken a step forward in advancing its clean energy goals as the Department of Energy (DOE) held discussions with the British Embassy Manila on the recently issued draft Department Circular for the generation, management, and monitoring of carbon credits in the energy sector.

DOE Undersecretary Rowena Cristina L. Guevara met with embassy officials, including Charis Yeap, Regional Lead for Green Finance, Ellen Anthony, Second Secretary for Climate, and Jowee Orense, who shared insights on carbon pricing mechanisms and UK-supported programs that could aid the Philippinesโ€™ transition.

The dialogue comes as the Philippines works to establish a framework that will attract investments in clean energy while ensuring alignment with its climate commitments. The DOE emphasized that partnerships with international stakeholders, such as the UK, will be critical in shaping a credible and effective carbon market in line with global best practices.
