Hassan Allam Utilities, Meridiam, and Infinity Power to Develop 1,200 MW Solar and 720 MWh Storage Projects in Egypt

Hassan Allam Utilities Energy Platform, a renewable energy investment vehicle established by Hassan Allam Utilities and co-owned by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), together with Meridiam and Infinity Power, Africa’s largest renewable energy company, has signed agreements with Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to develop two landmark renewable projects totaling 1,200 MW of solar power and 720 MWh of battery storage. This marks the second major renewable project for Hassan Allam Utilities Energy in Egypt.

The agreements, signed in the presence of Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, represent a major advancement in Egypt’s National Energy Strategy. The projects will enhance renewable integration into the national grid, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and strengthen grid stability through large-scale storage deployment.

Under the partnership, the consortium will develop a 200 MW solar plant with 120 MWh of battery storage in Benban, targeting commercial operation in Q3 2026, and a 1,000 MW solar plant with 600 MWh of storage in Minya, expected to be operational by Q3 2027. Together, these projects will help Egypt achieve its renewable energy targets—raising the share of clean energy to 42% by 2030 and 65% by 2040—solidifying the nation’s role as a regional leader in sustainable energy development.
