Huasun Energy has supplied its high-efficiency heterojunction (HJT) solar modules to the 200MW Xinhua Forest Farm Desertification Control and Photovoltaic Integration Project in Linhe District, Bayan Nur City, Inner Mongolia. The project combines renewable power generation with ecological restoration to support Chinaโ€™s low-carbon energy transition.

High-Efficiency HJT Solar Modules for Desert Conditions

Located on the northeastern edge of the Ulan Buh Desert, Bayan Nur is one of Chinaโ€™s major regions for desertification control, with more than 3.15 million mu (about 210,000 hectares) of sandy land. The 200MW project uses Huasun Himalaya G12 HJT solar modules to form a large-scale photovoltaic array designed for the areaโ€™s high temperatures, strong sunlight, and frequent sandstorms.

Huasunโ€™s HJT solar modules deliver up to 730W of power output, feature a high bifaciality of 95%, and maintain high performance under extreme temperatures. These characteristics allow for greater energy yield in high-reflectivity desert environments. Modules supplied for the project have passed extensive environmental and durability testing, including resistance to sand abrasion and water ingress. A dual-glass bifacial design with a steel frame improves protection and extends service life in harsh conditions.

System analysis shows that HJT technology can reduce BOS costs by about 3.5%, increase first-year power generation by 2.4%, and improve IRR by 0.46% compared with conventional PV modules in similar environments. When fully operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 360 million kWh of electricity annually, meeting the power demand of over 100,000 households. It is estimated to save about 123,000 tons of standard coal and reduce COโ‚‚ emissions by 271,700 tons, SOโ‚‚ by 65.6 tons, and NOx by 73.4 tons per year.

Integration of Photovoltaics and Ecological Restoration

The project also includes about 1,600 hectares of ecological restoration and under-panel planting of drought-tolerant species, which help stabilize the soil and provide additional agricultural income, creating a combined model of โ€œPV power generation + ecological restoration + modern agriculture.โ€

According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), desertification affects or threatens about 35% of the worldโ€™s land area. Huasunโ€™s HJT solar module technology has been widely applied in large-scale PV projects in desert and semi-arid regions such as Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang, with a cumulative project participation exceeding 2GW.
