SgurrEnergy has announced its involvement in one of Iraq’s first mega-scale renewable energy projects, a 3,000 MW initiative being developed by UGT Renewables in partnership with the Ministry of Electricity, Republic of Iraq.

The project, designed to bolster Iraq’s renewable energy capacity, encompasses a solar PV installation, energy storage systems up to 500 MW, and approximately 1,000 km of high-voltage direct current (#HVDC) transmission lines to enhance grid efficiency and stability.

As part of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), SgurrEnergy’s engineering team conducted comprehensive baseline monitoring across 15 project locations, covering air, water, soil, and noise parameters. The team also held stakeholder consultations with officials from the Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Environment to ensure compliance with Iraqi national standards and alignment with global best practices.

“This transformative programme represents a significant step in Iraq’s renewable energy ambitions,” SgurrEnergy said, highlighting its role in delivering sustainable, large-scale energy infrastructure to support the country’s long-term development goals.
