NamPower has invited international bids to develop six solar photovoltaic (PV) plants, each with a capacity of 20 MW, as part of a major push to expand Namibiaโ€™s clean energy generation.

The projects, fall within NamPowerโ€™s Independent Power Producer (IPP) procurement programme. According to the utility, the initiative aims to accelerate renewable energy adoption while strengthening the countryโ€™s long-term electricity security.

Developers will be required to build, own, and operate the facilities, with responsibilities extending to operations, maintenance, and grid interconnection. The tender also includes local participation requirements, with a minimum of 39% Namibian ownership and 20% equity for Previously Disadvantaged Namibians.

Clarifications will be accepted until 13 January 2026, 16:30 Namibian Time, while the final deadline for bid submissions is 30 January 2026 at 10:00.

Industry observers say the programme could add 120 MW of new solar capacity to the national grid, supporting Namibiaโ€™s broader renewable energy transition and drawing increased interest from global IPPs.
