Emicool, one of Dubai’s major district cooling companies and a joint venture between Dubai Investments and Actis, has taken a significant step toward cutting carbon emissions by partnering with Yellow Door Energy to launch four new solar power plants across the city. With a combined capacity of 1.2 megawatts-peak, the installations aim to support Dubai’s push toward cleaner and more sustainable urban infrastructure.
Developed under a solar lease model, the new plants are expected to produce 1.5 million kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity every year. This clean energy generation is projected to reduce carbon emissions by around 600 tonnes annually, an amount comparable to powering nearly 100 homes for an entire year. The partnership allows Yellow Door Energy to finance, construct, and operate the solar installations, helping Emicool adopt renewable energy without incurring upfront capital expenses.
The solar plants are spread across several locations, including Dubai Investments Park 2, Motor City, and Expo City Dubai. More than 1,860 solar panels have been installed, showcasing a mix of rooftop systems, solar carport structures, thermal energy storage tank installations, and an innovative vertical façade application. This façade installation highlights how solar generation can be maximised even in densely built urban areas where traditional rooftop space may be limited.
For Yellow Door Energy, the project marks a notable achievement as the company surpasses 1 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity generated across its regional portfolio. The collaboration also reinforces the role of private-sector developers in supporting the UAE’s transition to renewable energy.
Dr. Adib Moubadder, CEO of Emicool, said the initiative represents a key milestone in the company’s sustainability roadmap. He emphasised Emicool’s commitment to aligning with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy and the UAE Net Zero 2050 vision by incorporating renewable solutions into its district cooling operations. He added that the solar lease model reflects ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and environmental responsibility.
Yellow Door Energy’s Group CEO, Jeremy Crane, congratulated Emicool for advancing its sustainability goals. He noted that the vertical façade feature demonstrates the company’s dedication to expanding solar adoption in urban environments. As Yellow Door Energy marks its 10-year anniversary, he highlighted the company’s continued support for businesses seeking reliable and affordable clean energy solutions.
The project illustrates the strong potential of integrating solar power into district cooling systems, which play a major role in Dubai’s infrastructure. By lowering energy consumption, reducing emissions, and providing a scalable model for future expansion, the initiative sets a regional benchmark for decarbonizing cooling networks.
