French distribution company Alcampo, part of the Auchan Group, in partnership with Helexia, the energy services firm under Voltalia Group, has inaugurated a new photovoltaic canopy system at the parking area of the Alcampo hypermarket in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Barcelona.
The installation features over 431 kWp of capacity and includes 784 solar panels, which are expected to generate 620 MWh of electricity annually—equivalent to covering approximately 31% of the store’s total energy demand.
With this latest addition, Alcampo now operates 11 solar installations across its centers, bringing its total number of installed panels to 11,202.
The company highlighted that its commitment to energy efficiency dates back to 2008, when it introduced a corporate-wide sustainability plan. Since 2018, all electricity consumed in Alcampo stores has been sourced entirely from certified renewable energy. Additionally, nine of its outlets are currently equipped with photovoltaic systems.
Last year, the group further strengthened its renewable energy strategy by signing a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply green electricity to all its stores.
