Elgin has announced plans to develop two major agrivoltaic plants in Sicily and Lombardy, with a combined capacity exceeding 190 MW and a total estimated construction value of โ‚ฌ150 million.

In Sicily, the company intends to build a 30 MW elevated agrivoltaic facility paired with a 30 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project is designed to integrate renewable power generation with agricultural activity.

The second project, proposed in Lombardy, will feature a 130 MW agrivoltaic installation developed on rice fields. According to Elgin, the plant will utilise digital control systems and advanced land-management practices to balance energy production, preserve agricultural continuity, and protect local ecosystems, aligning with Italyโ€™s latest agrivoltaic guidelines.

Elgin, a prominent European renewable energy developer that sold a majority stake to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) in 2024, said the two initiatives represent a key step in its Italian expansion strategy.

โ€œThese two plants mark an important milestone in Elginโ€™s strategy in Italy, where we aim to develop over 3 GW of projects by 2030,โ€ said Dermot Kelleher, CEO of Elgin.
