Andhra Pradesh to Host India’s First Solar Ingot and Wafer Manufacturing Facility

Andhra Pradesh is set to become home to India’s first commercial-scale solar ingot and wafer manufacturing unit, marking a significant milestone in the country’s renewable energy manufacturing landscape. The facility will be developed by ReNew Photovoltaics, a subsidiary of ReNew Energy Global PLC.

According to official updates, the plant—planned at Rambilli in Anakapalli district—will be built with a production capacity of 6 GW. The estimated investment for the project is ₹3,990 crore, with construction targeted for completion by March 2026 and full-scale commercial operations expected to begin by January 2028.

The project will be spread across approximately 130–140 acres, and once operational, is expected to generate around 1,200 direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly in skilled and semi-skilled categories.

The upcoming manufacturing hub is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing India’s dependence on imported solar supply-chain components, particularly wafers and ingots—segments currently dominated by Chinese suppliers. The facility will require about 95 MW of uninterrupted power and 10 million litres of water per day to support full-scale operations.

Government officials stated that the project aligns with India’s strategic renewable energy ambitions, including expanding solar manufacturing capacity and supporting the national goal of achieving 300 GW of solar power capacity by 2030.

Industry experts believe the development will strengthen India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem, promote downstream integration across module and cell production, and improve the resilience of the clean energy supply chain.

The establishment of this facility positions Andhra Pradesh as an emerging hub in India’s renewable energy manufacturing sector and is expected to attract additional investments in supporting industries and logistics infrastructure.
