Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO HD) has signed a major clean energy agreement in Singapore, marking a significant milestone in its international renewable energy efforts. On October 30, 2025, a Special Purpose Vehicle formed by TEPCO HD and ESR Group Limited entered into a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Equinix (Singapore) Enterprises Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Equinix Inc., which operates more than 270 data centers worldwide, including five in Singapore.
The VPPA model enables companies to procure renewable energy generated off-site without requiring physical delivery of electricity. Instead, both parties settle financial differences between a fixed and floating price based on market price indexes. This structure supports corporate sustainability targets by providing flexible and stable access to clean energy while managing price volatility.
Under the agreement, Equinix will receive renewable power generated from rooftop solar projects with a maximum capacity of 10 MW for a period of 20 years. The initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 3,000 tons of COโ annually. This is the first overseas VPPA signed by the TEPCO Group, marking a strategic move toward expanding its global clean energy portfolio.
TEPCO HD, through its subsidiary TEPCO Global Energy Pte. Ltd., plans to continue promoting decarbonization by leveraging flexible renewable energy procurement mechanisms such as VPPA. The company aims to support customers in meeting sustainability targets and contribute to long-term energy transition and sustainable development goals.
