Jakson Engineers Ltd (JEL), part of the energy and infrastructure conglomerate Jakson Group, has signed a contract with European technology provider Ecoprogetti SRL to establish India’s first high-tech solar PV module recycling plant, marking a major milestone in the country’s clean energy transition.

The agreement was formalised between Gagan Deep Chanana, Joint Managing Director & CEO of JEL, and the Managing Director of Ecoprogetti SRL, in the presence of Bharat Gupta, Director on the JEL Board. Under the contract, Ecoprogetti will supply the advanced recycling line for the facility.

The plant will have the capacity to recycle approximately 300 MW of solar panels annually, equivalent to over 5,00,000 photovoltaic modules or around 13,500 tonnes per year. Designed to process 60 panels per hour, the facility will handle nearly 1.62 tonnes of material per hour, enabling the scientific, safe, and environmentally sound management of end-of-life solar panels.

By recovering valuable materials such as aluminium, glass, silicon, copper, and silver, the facility will reduce reliance on virgin raw materials and support the development of a circular and resource-efficient solar ecosystem in India.

Commenting on the development, Gagan Deep Chanana said the investment represents an important step in making solar power more sustainable and circular, aligning with the government’s vision for a circular economy and reinforcing Jakson’s commitment to responsible growth.

Bharat Gupta highlighted that as India rapidly scales up its solar capacity, effective end-of-life management of modules will be critical for the sector’s long-term sustainability. He noted that the facility will divert thousands of tonnes of waste from landfills each year while returning critical materials to the manufacturing ecosystem.

The investment places Jakson at the forefront of responsible solar lifecycle management in India. Recently, the company also laid the foundation stone for Phase I of its 6 GW integrated solar ingot, wafer, cell, and module manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh, backed by an investment of over ₹8,000 crore.
