European Energy has secured its first Contracts-for-Difference (CfD) tenders in France with the agrivoltaic projects Les Mathiaux and La Forge, located in Saint-Voir in the Allier department. The CfD awards cover a combined installed capacity of 15 MW, while the total capacity of the two parks is 21.2 MW. This marks a significant milestone for European Energyโ€™s expansion in the French renewable energy market.

The CfD tender was organised by the French energy regulatory commission (CRE โ€“ Commission de rรฉgulation de lโ€™รฉnergie). European Energy began developing these projects in 2021, designing them in anticipation of future agrivoltaic regulations ahead of the formal enactment of Franceโ€™s APER law, which aims to accelerate renewable energy deployment.

Nicolas Kรถnig, VP and Country Manager for France at European Energy, said the selection of the Saint-Voir projects by the CRE demonstrates the companyโ€™s ability to develop projects that meet national regulations, support local agricultural activities, and integrate environmental considerations. During the development phase, the company carefully addressed environmental, agricultural, and technical requirements to ensure that the projects are fully compatible with local conditions and regulatory expectations.

The successful CfD awards reflect the thorough preparation and coordination involved in the bidding process. Construction and commissioning of the agrivoltaic parks are planned for 2027. European Energy is also reviewing other projects in its French pipeline to determine how they can be advanced and commercialised in line with market opportunities and regulatory frameworks.

Thorvald Spanggaard, EVP and Head of Project Development at European Energy, highlighted that France is a key market for the company, with a growing development pipeline across multiple technologies. He noted that the Saint-Voir projects illustrate the maturity and depth of the portfolio in the country and are expected to be the first of many projects in the region. European Energy is currently developing more than 1 GW of renewable energy projects in France, reinforcing its position as a major player in the countryโ€™s energy transition.
