The Irecê Solar Complex – Phase 1, located in João Dourado, Bahia, began commercial operations on December 9th, marking a significant step in the expansion of renewable energy within Brazil’s electricity system. The complex comprises the Solar Irecê and Solar Irecê 3 plants, which together provide a total installed capacity of 133.40 megawatts (MW).
The two plants consist of 42 generating units in total. Solar Irecê includes 23 units, each with a capacity of 3.20 MW, totaling 73.60 MW, while Solar Irecê 3 has 19 units of 3.14 MW each, adding up to 59.80 MW. The complex is connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN) through the 138 kV busbar of the Irecê 230/138 kV Substation.
The project, with an estimated investment of R$647 million, is expected to contribute to regional economic development and generate employment opportunities. Environmental licensing was conducted by the Institute of Environment and Water Resources of the State of Bahia (INEMA), ensuring that the project complies with all environmental regulations.
The Irecê Solar Complex – Phase 1 is part of the New Growth Acceleration Program (Novo PAC), a Brazilian government initiative that coordinates investments in partnership with the private sector, states, municipalities, and social organizations. Under the Energy Transition axis, specifically the Power Generation sub-axis, the program currently encompasses 584 power plants, of which 368 have already been completed. This project reinforces Brazil’s commitment to expanding renewable energy generation and strengthening its sustainable energy infrastructure.
