Juniper Green Energy Commissions 60 MWh Merchant BESS Project In Rajasthan

Juniper Green Energy Limited has commissioned 60 MWh of its 100 MWh merchant Battery Energy Storage System project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project has been developed through its subsidiary, Juniper Green Cosmic Private Limited. This marks the company’s first operational merchant BESS project and positions Juniper Green Energy among the early players in India’s growing energy storage market.

The commissioned 60 MWh capacity has completed trial operations and has received approval from the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre. Commercial operations for this capacity began on December 24, 2025. The remaining 40 MWh capacity of the project is expected to be commissioned in the near term. Once fully operational, the 100 MWh project will become one of the largest operating battery energy storage systems in the country.

The project is expected to generate merchant revenues through multiple streams such as peak power arbitrage, grid balancing services, and participation in ancillary power markets. These services are becoming increasingly important as India adds more renewable energy to its power system.

In addition to the Bikaner project, Juniper Green Energy has already installed 400 MWh of battery storage capacity at Fatehgarh, Rajasthan. This larger storage project is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2026 and will further strengthen the company’s energy storage portfolio and long-term growth outlook.

Battery energy storage systems play a key role in India’s energy transition. They help improve grid stability, support the integration of renewable energy, manage peak demand, and make better use of transmission infrastructure. Recognising this importance, Juniper Green Energy plans to deploy battery storage capacity across all its solar project sites connected to the interstate transmission system, creating an integrated renewable energy and storage platform.

Commenting on the development, Ankush Malik, CEO of Juniper Green Energy, said the commissioning of the company’s first merchant BESS highlights its strong execution capabilities and strategic focus on new opportunities in energy storage. He added that battery storage is seen as a value-enhancing asset that supports portfolio diversification and grid reliability.
