Juniper Green Energy Limited has successfully commissioned 60 MWh of its 100 MWh Merchant Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at Bikaner, Rajasthan, through its subsidiary Juniper Green Cosmic Private Limited. This marks the company’s first operational merchant BESS and positions Juniper Green Energy as an early entrant in India’s growing energy storage market. The commissioned 60 MWh capacity has completed trial operations and received approval from the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC). Commercial operations commenced on December 24, 2025.

The remaining 40 MWh of capacity is expected to be commissioned in the near future. Once the full 100 MWh is operational, the Bikaner project will become one of the largest operating BESS installations in India. It will offer multiple potential revenue streams, including peak arbitrage, grid balancing services, and participation in ancillary markets. In addition to the Bikaner project, Juniper Green Energy has already installed 400 MWh of BESS capacity at Fatehgarh, Rajasthan. This facility is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2026, further strengthening the company’s storage portfolio and enhancing long-term growth prospects.

Battery Energy Storage Systems play a critical role in India’s energy transition. They support grid stability, facilitate renewable energy integration, manage peak demand, and enable more efficient use of transmission infrastructure. As part of its long-term strategy, Juniper Green Energy plans to deploy BESS across all of its solar project sites connected to the ISTS grid, creating a scalable, integrated renewable-plus-storage platform.

Ankush Malik, CEO of Juniper Green Energy, stated that the commissioning of the first merchant BESS demonstrates the company’s execution capabilities and strategic focus on emerging opportunities in energy storage. He emphasized that BESS represents a value-accretive asset class that complements the company’s renewable portfolio, enhances diversification, and supports overall grid reliability. Juniper Green Energy continues to expand its portfolio across renewable and energy storage assets, leveraging strong execution capabilities and a robust development pipeline to deliver sustainable, long-term value for its stakeholders.
