Lesieur Cristal, a leading Moroccan agro-industrial company based in Casablanca, has commissioned a new 2MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant at its manufacturing facility in Aïn Harrouda. The project, developed and built by Moroccan renewable energy developer Nareva Services, marks a key step in the company’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency. Nareva Services, part of the Nareva Group under the royal investment holding Al-Mada, has an extensive operational portfolio of around 3.8GW, highlighting its significant role in the regional energy sector.

The solar installation spans 1.5 hectares and is designed to supply clean electricity directly to the Aïn Harrouda factory. By adopting solar power, Lesieur Cristal aims to manage rising energy costs while supporting Morocco’s national renewable energy targets. This initiative aligns with the broader sustainability strategy of its parent company, the Paris-headquartered agro-industrial group Avril.

This is not Lesieur Cristal’s first investment in green energy. In 2014, the company received a €2.5 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to install a biomass boiler, reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The new solar plant builds on this commitment, demonstrating the firm’s ongoing focus on sustainable industrial operations.

The commissioning of the Aïn Harrouda plant coincides with a growing trend of commercial and industrial renewable energy projects in Morocco. Such “behind-the-meter” solutions allow large industrial consumers to generate their own electricity, ensuring energy independence and protection from market volatility. With Nareva Services’ expertise, the project meets the high technical standards necessary for industrial-scale integration.

As Morocco strengthens its position in renewable energy, the Lesieur Cristal project serves as an example for other agro-industrial companies. It demonstrates how private investment, local technical expertise, and support from international financial institutions can create a strong ecosystem for industrial decarbonization. By bringing the 2MWp plant online, Lesieur Cristal shows that sustainable energy is both an environmental responsibility and a strategic advantage in today’s industrial landscape.
