Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been granted a UAE copyright for a cutting-edge digital application designed to manage and plan distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The application integrates weather data and operational performance metrics into a comprehensive digital simulation system, linking directly to the Shams Dubai Master Database.
The tool is aimed at supporting data-driven decision-making and enhancing the efficiency of planning for Dubai’s electrical distribution networks, ensuring readiness for the rapid expansion of renewable energy across the emirate.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized the strategic importance of the innovation: “At DEWA, we continue to utilize advanced digital solutions and technological innovation to enhance the readiness of Dubai’s energy system. This application enables optimal use of weather and operational data to systematically expand distributed solar energy, enhancing network efficiency and supporting the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.”
The application allows the generation of detailed datasets for existing and proposed PV installations across the distribution network, up to main 132/11 kV substations, over any specified time frame. This capability facilitates accurate planning, assessment of operational impacts on the grid, and faster, more efficient decision-making.
Al Tayer added, “This interactive tool consolidates a data-driven approach to planning, supporting the sustainability and reliability of Dubai’s energy system while accommodating the growing number of distributed solar energy plants.”
Currently deployed within DEWA’s Power and Water Planning Division, the application demonstrates the authority’s commitment to smart, data-driven solutions that enhance planning efficiency and advance Dubai’s transition toward a sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure. Its flexible design allows future integration with additional data sources to generate a wide range of planning and operational datasets, further strengthening the emirate’s renewable energy capabilities.
