Sungrow has supported a 300 kW commercial solar upgrade at Saint Columba Anglican School (SCAS), replacing an ageing 100 kW system. The project, delivered in partnership with MNC Solar Power, aims to reduce electricity costs, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen the school’s sustainability commitments.

Four-Year Payback and Operational Savings

The upgraded system is designed to meet SCAS’s high daytime energy demand across multiple buildings, enabling significant offsets to grid electricity consumption. The school anticipates a payback period of approximately four years, translating into ongoing operational savings.

Steve Mitchell, Business Manager at SCAS, said, “We’ll be able to offset the upfront capital costs within around four years. That means ongoing savings for the school, which helps take pressure off our operating expenses and allows us to continue delivering a great education for our students without rising electricity costs.”

Advanced Technology and Intelligent Solar Networking

The new installation includes three Sungrow 110 kW commercial inverters paired with 708 high-efficiency Canadian Solar 440 W panels. Utilizing a logger-based wireless cascading technology, the inverters are connected via the school’s existing wireless network, enabling intelligent load sharing across multiple buildings without traditional cabling limitations.

Young, Technical Service Manager at Sungrow, explained, “This architecture allows the 300 kW solar generation to be dynamically balanced across distribution boards, ensuring optimal energy utilisation, enhanced system flexibility, and reduced reliance on grid power.”

Real-Time Monitoring and Educational Benefits

The system is integrated with Sungrow’s iSolarCloud platform, providing SCAS with real-time energy monitoring. Students and teachers can track electricity generation, consumption, and grid exports, turning the solar system into a hands-on educational tool.

Seamless Installation Through Strong Partnerships

The project was completed smoothly during the school holidays, with technical support from Sungrow and installation by MNC Solar Power, a trusted local installer with over 30 years of experience.

Officials highlighted that the project demonstrates how commercial solar solutions can be scaled for complex environments like educational campuses, combining smarter energy management, cost savings, and support for sustainable energy transition initiatives.
