Nextpower Arabia, a joint venture between Nextpower and Abunayyan Holding, has announced that it will supply 2.25 GWp of advanced solar tracking systems to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the Bisha Solar Project in Saudi Arabia.
The utility-scale solar project is being developed by an ACWA Power-led consortium and was procured by the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) under Wave 6 of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), overseen by the Kingdom’s Ministry of Energy.
Located in the Asir Province, Bisha is the largest project awarded under Wave 6 and represents a significant expansion of Saudi Arabia’s utility-scale solar portfolio. The project supports the Kingdom’s long-term energy transition and decarbonisation targets.
The 2.25 GWp order marks the first major project execution for Nextpower Arabia since the joint venture became fully operational. Through localized sales, manufacturing, delivery and supply chain operations, the company aims to accelerate large-scale solar deployment while supporting industrial growth and workforce development across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Commenting on the development, Bharathi Kumar, General Manager (Renewable International) at L&T, said the company has strong confidence in Nextpower Arabia’s ability to deliver advanced utility-grade solar solutions that ensure high performance and cost-effective clean energy generation over the project’s lifecycle. He added that localized production would improve project efficiency and reduce the costs and environmental impact associated with international logistics.
Dan Shugar, Founder and CEO of Nextpower, said the MENA region remains a key strategic focus for the company. He noted that the Bisha project strengthens Nextpower’s collaboration with ACWA Power and L&T and represents a milestone for the joint venture with Abunayyan Holding, particularly in localizing resilient solar technologies designed for the region’s operating conditions.
Turki Al-Amri, Chairman and CEO of Nextpower Arabia and CEO of Abunayyan Holding, highlighted that manufacturing the solar tracking systems within Saudi Arabia would support national renewable energy and industrialization objectives, while delivering supply chain benefits to project partners.
Earlier this year, ACWA Power, together with the Water and Electricity Holding Company (Badeel) and Saudi Aramco Power Company (SAPCO), committed $8.3 billion to develop seven large-scale renewable energy plants, adding around 15 GW of renewable capacity to Saudi Arabia’s power grid.
Nextpower has previously supported major solar projects in the Kingdom, including the 405 MW Sakaka Solar Park commissioned in 2018, and has now delivered more than 6 GW of utility-scale solar capacity across the MENA region.
