NTPC Limited has announced a fresh addition to its renewable energy portfolio with the commercial operation of a new solar capacity at the Khavda-I Solar PV Project in Gujarat. The disclosure was formally submitted to the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India on January 28, 2026, in line with regulatory requirements.
NTPC’s renewable energy subsidiary, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), has declared the Commercial Operation Date of the tenth part of the capacity of the Khavda-I project. This newly operationalized segment has a capacity of 130.47 MW and became commercially effective from 00:00 hours on January 29, 2026. The Khavda-I Solar PV Project has a total planned capacity of 1,255 MW and is being developed under the CPSU Scheme Phase-II Tranche-III.
The project is being executed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a step-down subsidiary of NTPC Limited, through NGEL. With this development, NTPC continues to expand its presence in large-scale solar power generation, particularly in Gujarat, which has emerged as a key hub for renewable energy projects in India.
The addition of this capacity has also strengthened the overall generation profile of the NTPC Group. Following the commissioning, the total installed capacity of the NTPC Group has reached 87,455 MW, while its total commercial capacity now stands at 86,375 MW.
The renewable energy arm has seen a corresponding rise in capacity. Prior to this commissioning, the NGEL Group had a commercial capacity of 8,347.78 MW. With the inclusion of the new 130.47 MW solar segment, the total installed capacity of the NGEL Group has increased to 8,478.25 MW.
The announcement was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015. The Khavda solar project is a key part of NTPC’s long-term strategy to scale up clean energy and support India’s national renewable energy and decarbonization goals.
