PT PLN (Persero) recorded a 19.65% year-on-year growth in Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) sales in 2025, reaching 6.43 terawatt hours (TWh), as rising industrial and commercial demand continues to drive Indonesia’s clean energy transition.
PLN’s Green as a Service (GEAS) Renewable Energy Certificate offering enables businesses to verify their use of electricity generated from new and renewable energy (NRE) sources, allowing them to reduce carbon emissions without altering their existing power infrastructure. The REC scheme also provides customers with transparent, accountable, and internationally recognised certification for renewable energy usage.
Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director, PLN, said the strong growth reflects increasing customer confidence in PLN’s green energy solutions and growing awareness of energy transition goals across industrial and business sectors.
“In line with the accelerating clean energy transition among industry players, PLN recorded positive growth in REC services throughout 2025, reaching 19.65% year-on-year. This highlights the readiness of industrial and business sectors to actively contribute to the renewable energy transition and enhance their competitiveness,” he said.
PLN noted that REC sales have consistently increased since the service was launched in 2020, underscoring its growing acceptance as a key decarbonisation tool for businesses.
“As the backbone of Indonesia’s renewable energy supply, PLN remains committed to strengthening industrial competitiveness by delivering 100% renewable electricity through REC-based services with a simple and efficient process,” Darmawan added.
Adi Priyanto, Director of Retail and Commerce, PLN, said demand from heavy industry and large-scale manufacturing customers has been the primary growth driver. In December 2025, approximately 55% of total REC sales were accounted for by the top ten customers, highlighting the industrial sector’s dominant role in clean energy adoption.
Major REC purchasers included companies from mining, manufacturing, chemicals, pulp and paper, food processing, and raw materials sectors, with individual procurement volumes ranging from 93,966 megawatt hours (MWh) to 779,000 MWh.
PLN currently operates 12 renewable power plants supplying green electricity to GEAS customers, including geothermal, hydroelectric, mini-hydro, and solar assets. These include Kamojang, Ulubelu, Lahendong, Ulumbu, and Ijen geothermal plants; Cirata, Bakaru, Orya Genyem, Saguling, and Mrica hydropower plants; the Lambur mini-hydro plant; and the Cirata floating solar power plant.
PLN said it will continue strengthening its REC services to support Indonesia’s national energy transition targets, while delivering sustainable value to industrial and commercial customers.
