India is rapidly advancing on its clean energy journey, with the latest figures showing a remarkable growth in renewable energy capacity over the past year. From December 2024 to December 2025, the country’s total installed renewable energy capacity increased from 2,09,444 MW to 2,58,008 MW. This rise is not only a sign of progress but also a clear indication that efforts to transition towards sustainable energy are taking shape on the ground.
The growth spans multiple sectors, including solar, wind, and bioenergy, reflecting a combination of strong policy support, infrastructure development, and active participation from states, industries, and local communities. One key objective is to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel installed power capacity by 2030 while strengthening the domestic renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem. Initiatives like PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM aim to make energy affordable, accessible, and reliable, while promoting the adoption of renewable energy at both large and decentralized scales. By providing predictable and transparent policies, the government is also encouraging investment in the sector, with a target of attracting around Rs 30 lakh crore by 2030. This investment is expected to support a sustainable and equitable energy transition, creating new economic opportunities and jobs across the country.
The progress made in 2025 shows that a long-term vision, combined with consistent implementation, can deliver tangible results. Each additional megawatt of renewable energy enhances India’s energy security, reduces dependence on conventional resources, and strengthens the foundation for a greener economy.
