Masdar Renewables Sourcing FZE Taps Sinovoltaics For Full Inspection Of 1.6 Million JA Solar Modules For 1GW+ Azerbaijan Projects

Masdar Renewables Sourcing FZE, a part of Masdar and a key player in global clean energy development, has partnered with Sinovoltaics, an international technical advisory firm known for its expertise in solar PV quality assurance. Under this engagement, Sinovoltaics will carry out module inspection and factory audit services for two large utility-scale solar projects in Azerbaijan, which together exceed 1 GW in capacity.

As part of Masdar Renewables Sourcing FZE’s quality-focused approach for these major developments, Sinovoltaics is conducting a full inspection of more than 1.6 million photovoltaic modules supplied by JA Solar. This includes 100 percent electroluminescence (EL) testing, ensuring every module is verified for performance and durability before deployment. The effort is intended to support long-term reliability and optimal energy generation from the projects.

The inspections utilize Sinovoltaics’ proprietary EL Mass Analysis (SELMA) technology, a system designed to detect defects across the entire production batch rather than relying on traditional sampling methods. In addition to module inspections, Sinovoltaics has also completed factory audits and traceability assessments to ensure end-to-end quality control.

Commenting on the initiative, Arthur Claire, Director of Technology at Sinovoltaics, emphasized that even a small percentage of undetected defects in projects of this size can lead to significant financial and timeline-related challenges. He noted that thorough inspection and audit processes represent a small additional cost compared to the potential risks associated with defective modules.

Module manufacturing for the projects was finalized in January, and shipments are expected to reach the project sites by the end of the month. Masdar Renewables Sourcing FZE’s decision to conduct full-scale inspections reflects a proactive strategy to secure asset performance, reduce risks, and maximize long-term energy output.
