Serentica Renewables, one of India’s prominent renewable energy developers, has secured 600 MW in the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s FDRE VII Assured Peak tender. This is the highest allocation awarded to any company under the auction and marks the largest single-location Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project that Serentica will deliver to date.
The FDRE VII tender, which has a total capacity of 4,800 MWh, is considered one of the most advanced and technically demanding renewable energy procurement programs in the country. As part of this award, Serentica will supply 2,400 MWh of peak power every day. The company plans to achieve this through an integrated solar and BESS setup installed behind the meter, ensuring efficient energy generation and storage.
Unlike conventional renewable tenders that typically focus on daytime generation, the Assured Peak framework requires power delivery only during non-solar hours. This structure directly addresses India’s rising evening peak electricity demand and helps improve grid stability. To meet these requirements, Serentica will develop a co-located solar plant and a battery storage system capable of delivering four hours of fixed peak supply each day. The project must also meet strict Demand Fulfilment Ratio targets of 70 percent on a monthly basis and 85 percent annually. These benchmarks ensure that clean energy is delivered consistently and reliably when the grid needs it most.
Akshay Hiranandani, CEO of Serentica Renewables, said that India’s energy transition has entered a stage where reliability and availability are becoming as critical as adding new capacity. He noted that the FDRE VII Assured Peak tender represents a major shift in how renewable energy is procured, as it focuses on meeting evening demand sustainably rather than simply generating more daytime power. He emphasized that Serentica is committed to developing renewable solutions that are not only clean but also dispatchable and dependable, and designed in line with the operational needs of the national grid.
This project strengthens Serentica’s position as an important contributor to India’s decarbonization efforts. By supporting the creation of a more resilient and flexible renewable energy system backed by storage, the company is helping advance the country’s goal of achieving round-the-clock clean power and improving long-term energy security.
