The Middle East is undergoing a profound transformation of its energy landscape. According to Middle East Solar Industry Association MESIA’s Solar Outlook Report 2025, solar energy still represents only about 2% of the regional energy mix in the MENA region (including Northern Africa), compared to 87% for fossil fuels, yet growth has been remarkable. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) states in “Renewable Energy Statistics 2025” that installed solar energy capacity in the Middle East region grew by 18 % from 2023 to 2024 to 23,6 GW. Projections of the International Energy Agency state that capacity in the MENA region could tenfold to 200 GW by 2035.
