The Ministry of Power under the Government of India has extended the deadline for submitting comments and suggestions on the Draft National Electricity Policy (NEP), 2026. The draft policy was first circulated to stakeholders on January 20, 2026, with an initial 30-day window for feedback that was scheduled to close on February 19, 2026.

According to an official communication issued from Shram Shakti Bhawan, the Ministry decided to extend the deadline after receiving multiple requests from stakeholders seeking more time to review the document in detail. The revised deadline for submitting comments is now March 19, 2026.

The notification, signed by Under Secretary Vikash Khichi, was sent to several key institutions and industry bodies. These include the Secretaries of various ministries, the Chairman of the Railway Board, the Central Electricity Authority, and heads of state electricity regulatory commissions. Prominent industry associations such as FICCI, CII, and ASSOCHAM were also informed.
