Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) has intensified its rooftop solar push in the national capital by convening a large-scale Resident Welfare Association (RWA) Summit in Rohini, drawing participation from over 100 RWAs and Group Housing Societies (GHS).
The summit marked a coordinated move toward residential solar adoption under the utility’s flagship initiative, ‘SURYANSH – Solar Lagayie, Har Din BachatPayie’, aimed at transforming neighbourhoods into decentralised solar energy hubs.
The event focused on enabling consumers to leverage benefits under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and the Delhi Solar Policy, both designed to accelerate rooftop solar deployment through financial incentives and regulatory support.
According to the company, the SURYANSH initiative provides end-to-end assistance — including technical guidance, regulatory clearances, and procedural facilitation — to streamline the transition to solar energy for residential consumers.
Registrations Surge in FY26
The programme has recorded strong traction in the current financial year, with registrations surpassing 15,000 in FY 2025–26. February 2026 alone accounted for nearly 3,000 new enrolments, signalling growing consumer interest in distributed solar solutions amid rising awareness of policy incentives and long-term savings.
Focus on Virtual and Group Net Metering
A key highlight of the summit was the presentation of a roadmap for implementing Virtual Net Metering (VNM) and Group Net Metering (GNM) frameworks. These mechanisms are particularly relevant for multi-storey residential complexes, enabling residents to share rooftop infrastructure and equitably distribute solar power benefits.
The initiative has now progressed into its execution phase, with on-site feasibility assessments underway to evaluate rooftop suitability for installations across participating housing societies.
Community Leaders Recognised
During the event, Tata Power-DDL recognised select community representatives as “Solar Champions” for promoting rooftop solar adoption within their respective societies.
A representative from Sidharth Apartment RWA in Pitampura stated that the discom has provided structured support to residents seeking to avail benefits under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. The assistance includes registration on the government portal and facilitation of subsidy disbursal, making rooftop solar adoption more accessible.
Tata Power-DDL said it will continue outreach efforts to expand rooftop solar penetration and strengthen Delhi’s transition toward decentralised clean energy systems.
