INJAZ Bahrain Headquarters Becomes First Youth Center In MENA To Achieve LEED Gold Certification

The headquarters of INJAZ Bahrain has achieved a major milestone by becoming the first youth center in the Middle East and North Africa region to receive the prestigious LEED Gold Certification. The recognition highlights the Kingdom of Bahrain’s growing commitment to sustainable development and environmentally responsible infrastructure. The certification was awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, which evaluates buildings around the world for their performance in energy efficiency, water management, and the use of sustainable materials.

The achievement was celebrated during a special ceremony attended by several prominent leaders. Among them were Ayman bin Tawfiq Almoayyed, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairperson of INJAZ Bahrain. Their participation highlighted the growing importance of integrating environmental responsibility into facilities designed for youth development, education, and leadership training.

To earn the LEED Gold rating, the building went through a detailed assessment process. The headquarters includes a range of modern systems aimed at lowering its environmental impact. These features include high-quality insulation that improves energy efficiency, advanced lighting systems that reduce electricity consumption, and smart water management solutions that help conserve water resources. Together, these elements reduce the building’s carbon footprint and support long-term sustainability goals.

The design of the building also focuses on creating a healthy and comfortable indoor environment. Improved air circulation and increased access to natural light were incorporated to enhance the well-being of both staff and the young people who regularly use the center. Such design elements are increasingly recognized as important factors in improving productivity, learning outcomes, and overall health.

During the event, Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa expressed pride in the accomplishment, noting that the certification reflects the national vision for sustainable development promoted by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. She stated that the center represents more than just a modern building; it serves as an example of how infrastructure projects can combine innovation with environmental responsibility.

The transformation of the headquarters also reflects strong cooperation between public and private sector partners in Bahrain. By developing a green facility, INJAZ Bahrain hopes to encourage young people to value sustainability and environmental awareness in their future careers and initiatives. The center will also act as a learning space where youth can gain practical knowledge about renewable energy, efficient resource use, and sustainable development.

As climate challenges continue to affect many countries in the region, this achievement sets a new standard for youth-focused institutions. The LEED Gold certification demonstrates Bahrain’s commitment to global environmental standards and its dedication to building a more sustainable future for the next generation.
