ACME Solar Holdings Ltd has announced the commissioning of a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Rajasthan. The company, through its various subsidiaries, has successfully commissioned 142.67 MW/ 81.49 MWh of BESS in the first phase of the project.
This development forms part of the companyโs larger plan to establish a total BESS capacity of 585 MW/2011.24 MWh under several Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs). The newly commissioned energy storage systems are connected to the operational Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS), allowing them to support the national power grid.
The battery storage systems will initially operate on a merchant basis in the short-term market. The project is expected to generate additional revenue by taking advantage of the price difference between peak and non-peak electricity demand hours. Batteries will charge when electricity demand and prices are low and discharge when demand and prices rise.
According to the company, these systems are designed to improve grid reliability and enhance the efficient use of power. By storing energy during low-demand periods and releasing it during high-demand periods, the BESS will help balance electricity supply and demand.
In the long term, the storage systems will be integrated with the companyโs Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) projects and will operate under a 25-year power purchase agreement. ACME Solarโs overall portfolio currently requires around 17 GWh of battery storage installations across multiple states in India.
